Basic Sailing Certificate:
Instruction for two adults – 16 hours on the water. Windward is the only club in the bay that offers private instruction for beginners. Our one-to-one class assures you that you get the training that is necessary to be safe on the water. Private instruction also means you learn at your own pace and can finish the instruction in a shorter amount of time rather than being constrained to a weekly course. Training includes boat preparation, engine review, docking, raising sails, trimming sails, rules-of-the-road, tacking and jibing, weather helm and reefing, man-over-board, anchoring and boat etiquette. Cost is $675.00 and includes the boat, instructor, yourself and a sailing companion if you bring one !
To be certified for sailing at night or any overnight trips you must complete this two hour class (or pass our navigation test). Coastal Navigation is the basis of all navigation and will included time-speed-distance instruction, chart reading, how to do a running fix, and set/drift. Cost is $175.00 for two people.
Windward offers additional classes on sail trim and shape, advance anchoring techniques, heavy weather sailing, advanced man-over-board techniques, small engine trouble shooting, and boat handling.
Members with prior sailing experience may challenge our check-ride and navigation test to become a member by submitting a sailing resume and passing our tests.
